We offer a variety of whole food and nutrition education based services.</b></i> <p>The Board, staff, and community advisory team supporting OFC believes that every resident in Oakland has the ability to produce the best food right from their backyard, balcony, or rooftop. We offer our services to any Oakland resident interested in turning their open space into a creative, bountiful supply of pesticide-free produce. Again, we seek to inspire and empower our community's residents create socially just and environmentally balanced food sources and networks throughout Oakland. Not relying on petroleum products to do this work sustains our rich ecosystem, which supports all life on Planet Earth. <p>Why grow food locally? It is the least expensive, most environmentally friendly way to obtain high-quality, pesticide-free produce without taxing the delicate balance of life. Over the last 30 years, research has shown that foods grown with insecticides has taxed our environment's ability to regenerate healthy soil. In many parts of the world, lands are permanently damaged. However, growing and consuming nutritious, pesticide-free foods from healthy earth is much more nutritious for humans as well as our ecosystems. Moreover, growing locally will ensure that each family has access to a bountiful supply of fresh food grown with healthy bio-active soil supplied and heirloom seeds supplied from local seed banks.</p> <p>By working together, we can heal our communities and creating a unique, self-sustaining food systems in order to ensure we have only the healthiest sources of food in our communities.
