Thursday, October 8th
Tomorrow is the OFC Fall Volunteer Orientation from 6pm-8pm! For all those potential volunteers out there, looking to learn more about OFC and see how to get involved—this orientation can’t be missed! Light refreshments will be provided. Saturday, October 10th
**Life is Living Festival, 11am-5pm at Defremery Park in West Oakland. OFC’s own Purple Lawn Café will be cooking up a storm at this youth empowerment music festival in West Oakland! Come by and grab a stir fry bowl from the hard working youth employees of Purple Lawn Café and check out some of the great performances and events going on right here in Oakland! **Youth and Families Day at the Laurel Community Farmers’ Market , 10am-2pm at 4173 Macarthur Blvd. OFC will be partnering up with local preschool Oakland Garden School to put on a day for families the 2nd Saturday of every month! Join us at the Saturday Laurel Community Farmers’ Market for some great food, music, and activities for kids!
**Uhuru House Gardening Day, 12pm-2pm at the Uhuru House at 7911 Macarthur Blvd. Oakland Food Connection is partnering up with the Uhuru House of Oakland to build yet another a community garden space in East Oakland! Wednesday, October 14th
Mills College Health Fair, 11am-2pm at Mills College. Oakland Food Connection will be attending and spreading the word about food justice in Oakland at the Mills College Health Fair for the second year in a row! We’ll have information about our programs as well as some awesome merchandise for sale! Come check it out!

Saturday, October 17th and Saturday October 24th
EC Reems Gardening Days!
School is back in session, and now its school garden time! Through in-class education and after school gardening, OFC stimulates interest in and prepares youth for “green jobs” such as ecological restoration, organic farming, nutrition education, and healthy food preparation and distribution. Join OFC staff and our partners Soul of the City on October 17th and Bay Localize on October 24th for community gardening at E.C. Reems Academy from 10am - 2pm.
We will expand East Oakland's first green rooftop garden by:
-building 10-16 new garden beds.
-planting new winter crop vegetables, donated by City Slicker Farms
-add new soil to existing and new garden beds
-get to know youth and adults in the green movement
-having fun and getting dirty!
What you will need:
-gloves
-water bottle
-hammer, if you have one
-snacks to share with the community

Wednesday, October 21st
Laurel Movie Night on the Patio! 7pm-10pm at 4171 Macarthur Blvd in the parking lot of Trattoria Laurellinos. OFC’s outdoor movie night is back! We are very excited to announce that Oakland Food Connection will be partnering up with California Food and Justice Coalition for this awesome event! We will be screening the film Food Fight, a documentary by Chris Taylor about Industrial Agribusiness and its effect on the way we eat and the growing movement of change towards food justice and health! For more information and to watch a sneak peek check out: http://www.foodfightthedoc.com/ This is a very special screening, not to be missed! Popcorn and refreshments will be provided, suggested donation of $5-7.

Saturday, October 31st
Happy Halloween! Join us at the Laurel Community Farmers’ Market from 10am-2pm at 4173 Macarthur Blvd at Maybelle Ave for a family fun Halloween celebration! Youth-made fresh food courtesy of the Purple Lawn Café, Live music from local favorite Iya Khan, and a Halloween trick or treaters booth courtesy of the Laurel District Association! Come by and check out the festivities and pick up some fresh organic produce while you’re at it!

Thank you Amanda’s!
Thank you to Amanda, Peter and the whole crew at Amanda’s Feel Good Fresh Food in Berkeley for helping us put on a successful fundraiser at Amanda’s last Wednesday, Sept. 30th! About 80 OFC guests came through to support us and learn more about our organization and enjoy some amazing fresh, locally grown, whole foods!
If you weren’t able to make it out to the event, don’t worry, you can still support OFC!
