The café acts as a training ground in teaching food justice through food prep techniques, how to work with natural foods, cooking/baking skills, nutrition and health education, leadership and business operations skills. With guidance from on-site OFC staff and featured guest chefs, we are looking forward to a successful program that prepares youth to be conscious green contributors to the Bay Area’s growing sustainable food culture movement. </p> <p> Members of the Oakland Food Connection can purchase our natural spices, herbs, teas, tasty lattes or a nutritious meal at a discounted price. Even if not a member, you will benefit from the quality and pricing of our goods in comparison to retail grocers. </p> <p> Come and support the Purple Lawn Café <br /> • Open @ 10p-3p every Saturday starting Jan 26. <br /> • All proceeds benefit all ongoing OFC programs. </p> <br /> <br /> <p> <b>Bi-Monthly Food Parties</B> </p> <p> We are continuing our movement for fabulous food parties in the New Year. For any newcomer, our food parties offer the opportunity to not only eat some nutritious and tasty foods but also a way to network and socialize with other OFC supporters. From the very beginning, our food parties brought attention to food justice issues within the Oakland community. Now with a growing number of supporters in solidarity with our demand for food justice, the Oakland Food Connection continues to expand its foundation in growing a green social movement of individual participants who care about healthy food sources and their relationship to the planet.
